Toiletries Must haves

16 Jan 2024 - anon

Like all things we do for people, one of the most important aspects is anticipating their needs. Being a host is no different. Nowhere can this be felt more than in the bathroom. It is essential that you make your guests feel at home and comfortable. A great way to do this is to provide them with a bathroom experience that caters to their every need…or at least most of them. The list of items a host can provide for a great bathroom experience can be a long one; from toiletries to decor and everything in between. Today we focus on toiletries. So before guests arrive, you should make sure to stock up and put them out for easy access. Not only does this make it easier for guests, but it also eliminates the need for them to have to ask.

Hand Soap

This is a must have in any bathroom.Whether it is hand wash or bar soap, your guests will need a means to wash their hands. The type, size and brand of hand soap comes down to your ethos as business as well as the observed preferences of your guests. For bar soaps, you should select the size based on the average length of stay of your guests, with sizes ranging from 15g to 50g. The longer the stay the greater the size. On the other hand, with handwash you can simply buy large amounts of your selected brand and make use of beautiful, hygienic dispensers that fit the theme of your bathroom.

Bath soap is another must have product any good host needs to provide. This can either be in the form of shower gel or bathing bars. It can be a fine line between selecting which type of bath soap to provide as this decision is largely influenced by guest preferences. It is why many hosts opt to go for both, thus providing their guests with the option to choose. However, since this means an added cost, it could be used in the beginning to help the host select based on guest usage along with feedback. Once you determine what works for a majority of your guests you should be able to decide on one or the other,

Lotion

Lotion is one of those items that is easily forgettable despite it being widely used. Most of us use lotion daily and your guests are no different. When it comes to selecting the brand and size of the lotion you provide, consider the length of stay of your guests as well as weather conditions in the area. If your property is in a hot area, your guests may have more need for lotion and hence would require larger sizes as well as lotion with some sort of sunlight protection. Since there is no way to determine your guests’ skin types, it is best to go for general purpose lotion products as opposed to skin type specific ones, eg. dry skin.

Keep in mind

Toiletries selection should be based on some of the following:

  • Your brand
  • Observed guest preferences
  • Ingredients
  • Average guest stay period
  • Weather/Location
  • Cost

Once you have selected possible candidates, you should try them out to help you better select quality products for your guests

Don’t forget to think about the aesthetics of the bathroom as well. Present your products beautifully and in an accessible manner to enhance your guests’ experience. Where possible, stock up on the larger options of your toiletries as well as refillable receptacles eg. soap dispenser, pump bottles. This is a more eco-friendly option that will also provide you cost savings.

The process of toiletries selection is a continuous one, and so it is vital that you keep iterating based on your guests’ feedback and usage, to help you find what works best for all parties.
