The bathroom is an essential part of any home; and this is no different for your short term rental. It is thus vital that you offer your guests a space that encourages them to feel comfortable and at home. An amazing guest experience can either be ruined by a subpar bathroom or sealed by an above average one. Today, we look at ways that hosts can step up their bathroom game, and gain valuable points from their guests in the process.
How many times has a particular scent sent you back to a specific memory or emotion? Scents are said to be one of the strongest memory triggers. The nose remembers long after the mind has forgotten; this is why it is one of the first things we notice when we step into a room. Take advantage of this by cultivating calming blissful scents through the use of candles, room sprays, potpourri, diffusers, and scented toiletries among others. Some scents you can begin experimenting with include lavender, mint and eucalyptus.

A nice way to add warmth to your bathroom is to take advantage of nature by placing flowers and houseplants in your bathroom. It is a nice way to add color to what is usually a bland, tiled room. Whether you prefer fake plants or real ones, use what is readily available to you. Real ones add an extra layer of freshness but require maintenance which can quickly turn into a pain if you have multiple properties to cater to. If using real plants, select ones that require little maintenance such as cactus, spider plant or zz plant. Do not be afraid to mix and match until you find a combination that works for your space.
Using a bathroom is always an intimate experience. And if you are anything like this writer, using a new bathroom always gives you some level of anxiety or nervousness. Help your guests feel more welcome and comfortable by giving them distractions and “guard breakers” in the form of decorations; enough to intrigue but not so much they overwhelm. These decorations can include: candles, framed pictures and illustrations, statement piece mirrors, randomly placed rocks and minerals, and wood accents. More often than not, decorations are about the small details. You don’t need to spend a fortune to pull off a magazine-worthy look.
Nine times out of ten, a personalized experience will win out over a generic one. Impress your guests by leaving them short, personal notes by the sink, taped to the mirror, or placed on top of a stack of towels. For an extra personal touch, they can even be handwritten. The message can be as simple as “Welcome Home! We hope you enjoy your stay with us”.

A well done accent wall can pull a room together; an over-the-top, well done one can evoke wonder and amazement. You can achieve this in your bathroom by utilizing bold wallpaper juxtaposed against the coldness of bathroom tiles. This could be anything from bamboo print to geometric shapes and abstract designs.
Do more for your guests by providing them with homey touches such as a set of comfy robes and slippers; bubble bath supplies; and a varied selection of toiletries based on their needs. Homey touches like these illustrate to your guests the extra thought and time was put into giving them a truly relaxing experience
As with everything, it is always important to experiment in order to find approaches that work best for both you and your guests.
